Giving back to the community is a cornerstone of tapas-style restaurant SUR LIE which is located in the heart of downtown Portland. And for owner Krista Cole who grew up in East Millinocket, Maine, that community commitment extends back to her roots. SUR LIE is a FEED KIDS partner so they can affect change in for kids in this Northern Maine town known as the gateway to Mount Katahdin. Krista knows that for some folks in the area, a meal or two at school can help ease the financial burden at home. “A hungry child risks not reaching their full potential in school and in their engagement in the world,” Krista shares. “It affects a child’s ability to learn and engage as well at puts strains on our social systems as a whole.” So, they’re doubling down – featuring two FEED KIDS items on their menu to benefit Full Plates Full Potential. For each order of Brussels Sprouts (served with Marcona almonds and lardons), and each order of “Girl from North Country” cocktail (made with Barr Hill gin, Tanqueray Malacca, hibiscus and galanga syrup, lemon and rose water – inspired by Krista’s childhood home) SUR LIE will donate $1 to support child nutrition programs in East Millinocket.
