FALL 2020 SCHOOL MEAL CAMPAIGN: Feeding Kids During the Pandemic

As schools across Maine prepare to reopen for in-person instruction, Full Plates is working to help school nutrition programs navigate meal service for kids during a pandemic.

Our goal, always, is to remove barriers that prevent kids from accessing school meals. This is complicated immensely by social distancing protocols and an increased need for these meals brought about by the COVID-19 crisis. On average, schools need $19,000 in new support to implement safe and effective food service as they welcome children back to campus this fall.

Pandemic-related food service expenses include:

  • New equipment for socially distanced meal service
  • Packaging not typically utilized in school meal service
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for school nutrition staff
  • Transportation to deliver meals to kids at home if their school’s reopening plan includes some remote learning days
  • Increased staffing and food costs

We invite you to be as generous as you can.
Please give and share the urgent need with those in your network.
